President Cirro Hosts Iftar Banquet for Awdal Traditional Leaders to Resolve Ministry Dispute

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), hosted a high-level Iftar banquet at the Presidential Palace for traditional leaders and elders hailing from the Awdal region. Timed during the holy month of Ramadan, the gathering carried significant political and cultural weight, focusing on achieving genuine reconciliation, bolstering security, and fostering national unity among the people of Somaliland.

This presidential intervention comes at a highly sensitive juncture. Recently, traditional leaders from the Awdal region announced a temporary suspension of their cooperation with the Ministry of Interior. The elders raised multiple grievances regarding the government's approach to the ongoing peace process and the handling of local community concerns. By stepping in to host this Iftar, President Cirro established a direct platform for dialogue, aiming to clear the air and bridge the divide between his administration and the region's prominent figures.

The critical meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Transportation and Road Development. The deliberate inclusion of the Minister of Interior at this gathering served as a clear diplomatic signal. It demonstrated the Presidency's readiness to confront the underlying misunderstandings face to face, seek lasting solutions to the region's grievances, and restore mutual trust and full cooperation between the two sides.

Ultimately, this gathering underscores the Cirro administration's recognition of the vital role traditional elders play in maintaining national stability. Capitalizing on the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan, the meeting successfully paved the way for prioritizing national interests over regional disputes. It reaffirmed a commitment to resolving conflicts at the negotiation table, ensuring a peaceful Somaliland that can collaboratively pursue its developmental goals.
