Resolution in the West: Somaliland Vice President Issues Strict Directives from Borama to End Communal Conflict

BORAMA, Somaliland — The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Mohamed Ali Abdi, accompanied by members of the cabinet and the Commander of the National Army, Major General Nimaan Gaaxnuug, officially announced the total cessation of hostilities and communal conflicts in Western Somaliland, specifically within the Awdal and Selel regions.


Speaking from the city of Borama, the Vice President emphasized that the government has recognized the severe impact and recurring nature of these inter-clan skirmishes. He affirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to achieving a definitive and lasting peace that ensures absolute stability for the region.

Peace Agreement Declaration and the Wednesday Deadline

Vice President Mohamed Ali Abdi announced that the specific points and legal frameworks of the peace agreement would be formally unveiled this coming Wednesday. In the interim, the government has issued immediate directives concerning the clan militias involved in the recent unrest:

  • Regrouping of Militias:Ā All armed militias have been ordered to immediately move to designated zones to facilitate the implementation of the agreed-upon peace terms.

  • Integration into the National Army:Ā The government has extended an opportunity for militia members who wish to join the Somaliland National Army, provided they undergo the official military recruitment process.

  • Prohibition of Unauthorized Weapons:Ā Effective this coming Wednesday, no individual will be permitted to carry weapons within these regions outside of the official state security apparatus.

Strict Warnings to Security Forces

The Vice President instructed the national security forces, including the military and the police, to operate with high vigilance and strictly enforce these new mandates. He authorized immediate legal action against any individual or group attempting to obstruct the peace process or violate the terms of the agreement.


"Peace is non-negotiable. Anyone who opposes this resolution or attempts to reignite civil strife will face the full force of the law," stated the Vice President.
